National Park from GSC is objectively the best piece of music ever written for the GB soundchip, and that's not debatable.
The way that Go Ichinose created the illusion of extended chord voicings using just 3 fucking channels is incredible. He times the melody to hit the right notes at just the right time on top of the other 2 channels, usually playing broken chords, to create the illusion of chords playing where they aren't. It's literally manipulating the brain into imagining chords that aren't there. For example, right at the beginning, the melody is timed just right to play a Dbmaj7 chord, ommiting the 3rd, before continuing the melody line. If the melody had played any other note there, it wouldn't have worked. The magic is that with so much information missing it is left up to the listener to fill in the gaps. And you don't have to be a musical expert to do this, it just happens subconsciously. For example, some listeners may interpret the second chord as Dbaug, while others may hear an F#m.
