Not to mention, there's always a canon story, because they write a SINGLE story, then add the version differences to it (Violet is that for SV because Game Freak put a copy of the Violet book in Cogita's hut in Legends and had background images of Laventon and antique pokéballs, proving Legends is canon and only the Violet book got written).
And seeing as the first 4 Gens all called back to the first ever paired games and every pair since has similarly referenced the events that took place over that period of time in some fashion, that proves they have a canon timeline. And seeing as Legends held true to Gen 4's canon, that makes it part of the prime universe's canon.
