this. I like BW but your team options expand exponentially the farther you get. All the coolest shit is closer to the end of the game. I like that design philosophy. It rewards the players progress. Unfortunately it comes at the cost of having good 'mons early on. I basically hated all the garbage I had on my team until I got to the desert and fell in love with scraggy, sandile, then after that theres reuniculus and swanna and loads of bug types. towards teh end you get braviary and golurk and beartic and THREE different dragons. Its one of those games where you catch and ditch dudes as you go along. Early game its pups and purloins and hot monkey garbage.

B2W2 throws 10 cool monsters at you every route. The player certainly isnt starved for choice but its a very different design philosophy and can almost be overwhelming Fan games have been like this recently.

AND ALSO skipped SWSH and LgPLgE

the only difference is I picked rowlet cuz I like owls and archers. I'm glad someone got to experience these games the RIGHT way. Ice punch and crunch on Feraligatr, Brock fuckin up Charmander, torchic doublekicking the entire game, surfing on empoleon by canalave city. I swear, these starters make these games into masterpieces. Like a fine meal.

Rowlet was kind of underpowered like a snivy or treeko run, in case you were wondering. Ghost/Grass has a lot of annoying weaknesses. Hows the clown seal?

It’s gonna be awhile (I hope it’s awhile), but what are you hoping to see for the next big mainstream entry? Me personally, I really want them to carry the open world engine over from Legends and optimize it.
