A fucker from Team Rocket/Team Galactic appeared and said she could save them with an armor and they were all about both surviving until she said she only had one set and they had to fight to the death for it. Archie won but he does mention that Maxie was the guy who was his partner in life's ups and downs. Then Archie dies after he loses the armor and his "soul" goes to the Distortion World. It turns out Maxie's went there too. Why? Who fucking cares, the point is them being now sentient energy literally did a fusion and became one and the same until a voice showed up and said "hey you want to save the world or what", giving them new bodies for the ORAS episode, where they got back their legendaries and teamed up to destroy the meteor. It was too strong tho so they die again.
