Certain shills will post routes from older games and say "Oh but this was a hallway too!" but those routes were wide and felt bigger because you were only standing on a single tile and you could only see a tiny bit at a time. That's why they work, and why they're not hallways. Areas in general feel like this the world always feels larger than the player.
SwSh never achieves this feeling. There are certain routes in SwSh that are better than others (Route 8 and 9 for example), but there are way too many routes where you're able to just see the exit from the start, or where the only path is a very narrow line that you can see in full at all times. Even the Wild Area you can see both cities right from the start and you can just see too much of it from any given area. The DLC was admittedly better in this regard but the base game should have been better from the start, the DLC doesn't improve the bland routes, and the new wild areas are still kind of on the small side.
The game's map should at least be half the size of BOTW's map.
