This isn't a demanding request. Make the region more lively and explorable. ORAS Hoenn and USUM Alola are great examples. In ORAS I could fly on a Latias discovering new islands and fighting legendaries from other regions. USUM had a handful of NPC side quests giving NPC characters more life.

I just want to see a well done region fit for a system such as the switch. I want well done routes, nice side areas, interesting environments across a large landscape. A ton of interesting cities and towns. My main issue with Pokemon right now is the half assed regions and hand holding. Also give an option to the player to play in specific servers that are locked up to a certain gen. For instance a server that only includes regions and mon from 1 up to 3, or 1 all the way to 8.

"muh evil team" would be fine if the game actually committed to it and made it the focus of the campaign, they always feel like shit because they are a side show.
The closest we ever got to them doing this was B/W1 but really all that was, was just having 2 champion fights instead of 1 basically nothing changed formula wise.

4. A good region where it's not decorative hallways after decorative hallways.

Undo dexit. I don't care if the national dex itself is in the game, but at least allow us to transfer in all of our old pokemon even if they aren't in the regional dex. Some pokemon with genuine utility were cut from S/S and it's irritating (Parasect while shiny hunting, for example).

Less linear routes and actual dungeons a la Mt Coronet. Gen 8 plays like a 20 year old game, and at $90 a piece with DLC it's pretty sad.

Allow the opposite legendary to be caught after the main story at a higher level (like they used to).

I don't need open world but I just want the feeling of properly scaled regions to return. Certain shills will post routes from older games and say "Oh but this was a hallway too!" but those routes were wide and felt bigger because you were only standing on a single tile and you could only see a tiny bit at a time. That's why they work, and why they're not hallways. Areas in general feel like this the world always feels larger than the player.

SwSh never achieves this feeling. There are certain routes in SwSh that are better than others (Route 8 and 9 for example), but there are way too many routes where you're able to just see the exit from the start, or where the only path is a very narrow line that you can see in full at all times. Even the Wild Area you can see both cities right from the start and you can just see too much of it from any given area. The DLC was admittedly better in this regard but the base game should have been better from the start, the DLC doesn't improve the bland routes, and the new wild areas are still kind of on the small side.

The game's map should at least be half the size of BOTW's map.

There aren't two boats. It's one boat, and GameFreak will do whatever TPCi tells them to do. You can decide not to play it or to dedicate your days to shitting on it, but buy, no buy, we have absolutely no input or sway in the direction of this boat, no matter how much you convince yourself we could.

I've only played Chronicles on the Wii but the fact is that game was bigger, more detailed and lively than Sw/Sh despite being on the fucking Wii. Playing it all those years ago all I could think about was a pokemon game in that style. Just make the battles turn based and maybe add "traditional" grass too and it would be amazing.

Honestly, Pokemon was never good. Never the best looking games on the platform, never technically special. It's all marketing and nostagia. Objectively, the games have always been medicore, always shilled gimmicks, always been piss easy and they've always gone back on features and other things the fans enjoy.

World building? The lore is piss poor, legendaries are meaningless, nothing really connects and yet somehow they have two timelines. Towns are tiny, mostly lifeless and too many of them exist to be pokemon center locations. NPCs are lifeless, rarely give any insight to the world at large either.

No other creature collecting game has come close to being as good as Pokemon, but that doesn't mean Pokemon was every very good. People shit on Sw/Sh, and rightly so, but look at how dog shit Diamond and Pearl were, slow, ugly and damn near unplayable. The DS was clearly better than that given Gen V.

Gen 3 had no night and day, no backwards compatibility, and you couldn't get half the dex without the gamecube games and FR/LG and select fucking events. Shit you can go back to the original games, they're an ugly, buggy mess that barely ran.

Two versions has always been a way to sell more copies. Gamefreak has been doing remakes every generation aside from gen V so how much original shit are they really coming up with?

How? What do you mean "left"? Or do you mean stopped giving money to Ishihara? If so, I bought Sword used so I could play online on official servers and haven't bought any new merch of any kind since before the Gen 8 reveal trailer. I'm not giving them any more of my money and I will be buying future games I want to play used.

Alola was worse actually because they removed gyms but put in a really mediocre replacement that ended up almost being the same thing (kahuna battles) and centered the game around Lillie's family drama, then at the end they realized the island trials are stupid and planned to form a proper league. The only good thing about Gen VII is I can soft reset for virtually every legendary from Gen 1-6 (minus Zygarde) and use PKSM for genning.

I'm of the camp that Alola was better than Galar, but this post is still right on every other account. All of the problems in SWSH started with SM. Ohmori is a hack and shouldn't be directing games anymore. The butchered Battle Tower actually gives less BP and the EV grind threw out all of its streamlining in favor of a money grind. Unironically, it's actually worse to raise Pokemon in base SWSH than it was to raise them in XY. Unless you're seriously invested in a boring, gutted version of the Battle Tower and a boring slog of an excuse for an endgame that is postgame max raids. I legitimately dig the change to vitamins but it's one step forward and two agonizing steps back.

It might sound nostalgia pilled af but this game only got progressively worse after DS era ended. The lack of life, in general, is mostly due to bad writting and the sheer lack of personality that the 3D models have. Even back in nintendo 64 pokemon had some random animation mixed with it's idle animation, we were generations ahead in tecnology and the new models, while better looking, don't do anything interesting.
And that's the tip of the iceberg. Graphics aren't everything but at least make good use of animations and good writing to actually use that shitty argument.

It follows the same design principles from its predecessor and GF has said very explicitly that this is the direction they want going forward, so it's perfectly understandable that many people would check out after SWSH's release.

I've already gotten to the point where I'm just buying used if at all. I regrettably bought a copy of Sword used, but like yourself I've done next to nothing with it as the game is just too dogshit to enjoy. I thought I could at least scratch that itch for battling, but it's just not cutting it.

I'm waiting for gen IX to see if they continue this direction. If so, I'm definitely checking out entirely. I'll get rid of all my previous games, too--Can at least get some money for them for other things I'll enjoy. I don't particularly enjoy even looking at them as it currently stands, I'm just holding out in the vain hope that SWSH is the worst it'll ever get and that it can only get better from here.

They used to get creative with sprite poses, and it was fun to see how each Pokemon would look when it came time for a new game.

They're all very stiff and lifeless animations. Good animations in 3D Pokemon are few and far between, and they're all special attack animations. Shit like Dragon Ascent or Cinderace's signature move. The general animations for Pokemon are almost universally bland.

They're not "buzzwords." I've been deliberately avoiding using the word "soulless", because THAT is a buzzword. The 3D animations for the most part feel unnatural, overly restrained, and sluggish. It's especially bad when they're being sent out and idling, 90% of the time they just drop out of their pokeballs in totally neutral poses. Most attacking animations are void of visible emotion, which gives off a very robotic impression. The bare minimum to carry out the commands given to them, without a single thought or emotion for themselves. As the other anon initially said, lacking personality.

Scizor's HGSS sprite more effectively conveys emotion compared to its 3D models, and that's what makes it more interesting.

SwSh was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I was miffed at USUM being essentially SM DLC at the price of a full game. With SwSh, there's no justification in my mind to pay $90 for a fucking Pokemon game. Same recycled plot, continuous adaption/discarding of gimmicks, un-skippable cutscenes, reduction of content, and bloat of the Pokedex in an effort to remain fresh and new is what drove me to no longer buy new Pokemon games.

I didn't leave, but I do have major grievances with the series since XY. What I wish for future installments is;

- A return to a more "difficult" series (i.e. no EXP right at the start of the game, it should also be able to be turned off).

- Following on from the previous point, none of this "KiDs dOnT HaVe aTtEnTiOn sPaNs!!!!1" bullshit from gamefreak as an excuse as to not even try to make a fucking engaging game

- Bring back all the pokemon, I want to use my blasted Mismagius on my team.

- Make money/resources lower/rarer.

- Make all trainers after, say, the 4th or fifth gym have at least 5 pokemon on their team. At the very least allow fucking gym leaders. And also give them ALL four moves, none of this Wulfric 3 move pokemon nonsense.

- Increase/smarten the enemy AI gradually after each gym, and make sure endgame gymleaders/E$ have EVs/IVs

- Get rid of that monotype nonsense in gyms

True, I think it costs about 280,000 pokeshekels to full EV a single pokemon. But during the main campaign, it should be harder to get. Mostly to balance the use of items in battle (risk vs reward).

I won't ask to get rid of the bike, but let me ride my Pokémon instead if I so want, also to answer >>46285394, there's people out there who'll get their car and drive for hours without any particular destination, just because they like to "be on the road", I think soaring gives off a similar feeling (although I can't be sure, since I don't drive). However, it could have more to do so it could appeal to more people, like having more flying Pokémon flying around; trainers with their own riding mons (or even the Corviknight taxi or equivalent) to [Sky Battle] against, or maybe sometimes not even battle, but have some racing minigame to see who reaches a certain map location quicker while avoid the enemy attacks/wild Pokémon; also have the world still moves below you, so one could fly very high to do the things I mentioned above, or fly way lower, like just above average sized houses (i.e Pokémon Center), and observe the world below you and maybe have something happen from time to time and you could promptly descend to interact, like some evil grunt up to no good, someone being chased by wild Pokémon, or just spotting a rarer Pokémon on the grass or water (especially if you're flying just above the ocean) and just sky dive into it to initiate the encounter and etc, I'm sure other folks could come up with even more stuff to do while flying around. Now the exploration would be more abundant while surfing/diving, or rather, more diving since anything you could see while surfing you would also be able to see while flying... anyways, underwater caves, temples and remains of ancient cities, would certainly be neat, but I'm tired of typing, as I'm phoneposting, so I'll let someone else expand on this...;

I don't. The only shitty writting I give a pass is gen V because they actually tried something different for once. Everything before just had to function as intended, the tried and true. Gen V set some expectations that Gen VI would maybe have a good story and it didn't happen. Lysandre is only better than Rose as a villain and that's just because they seem to have rushed everything on Rose's end to make him look like a retard.
Now think about it, if a pokemon game has actually tried to write off a good story what are the odds that they improved it in the future?
If it were any other franchise answer would be "slim" at worse and "pretty good" at best, but pokemon has a solid "zero" as answer. Gen 7 revisited the story department and because the game looks lifeless it just ended up looking like a bad fanfic. USUM was a improvement, even if I never played 3DS era it was a genuine attempt at making the game harder.
Then home console happened and it's just a 3DS game in a bigger screen. Again a fucking lifeless game without any personality. But to their credit if you remove you rival from the game it's actually a well written game by gamefreak standards. Also wild area as a concept was cool, it's execution is lacking.
