I unironically think the dex is really solid and gets a lot of unfair hate.
Unova's collection of towns and cities are by far the best in the entire franchise; every town has it's own thematic and unique elements to it, with fantastic songs to boot. I know a lot of people don't like Castelia at all, because it was too big for some people to get through (and other complains include the unforunate short loop of its theme, and the pixelated zoom-outs), but it was the first time a city in a pokemon game actually looked like a city and not just 4 or 5 buildings. Visiting the bustling metropolis at night feels amazing and it still has all these little places to explore and find.
A lot of people dislike this gen's 2.5D, but I think it was the best the overworld ever looked visually:
The colors are vibrant and full of life without reaching the saturated neons of previous entries, the world design is full with tons of little details to a degree we have never seen again, and the seasons added a lot of life and atmosphere to the region.
Reaching Virbank at night while it's raining, coming out of Twist Mountain to be met by a white snowy Icirrus, traversing the vivid reds of Pinwheel at fall, going through the Marine Tube... I feel this gen did a fine work at setting some fantastic ambience to suck players in its world, culminating into the best two "victory road experiences" in the series imo.
And god bless the unique remixes of the gym themes in BW2, that was a gift.
Also, I have to give some points to BW for the mere fact that it managed (for once) to fix the double climax problem the series has always carried since forever, reconciling both climaxes into one plot line.
