>>51438370Pokemon is the highest grossest franchise in all of history, having a gap of 30 billion over hello kitty while also being a much younger franchise. It's not losing anyone money. Pokémon has mass appeal being able to produce a sense of adventure and exploration as well as the Pokémon themselves being distant yet very familiar creatures due to the way they are constructed. Verily so, Pokémon being the master of cute creature design and constructing Pokémon in a familiar light has, in my opinion, allowed the series to flourish. Tajiri vision of Pokémon, based primarily around his own childhood and interactions with nature, has resonated with millions of people. The panel where Sugimori ask Tajiri of the nature of Pokémon, that is them being monsters and such, and Tajiri mind shifting away from that and into our own natural world shows a stroke of genius. By decreasing the monster aspect of Pokémon and forging them as more familiar creatures it allowed the Pokémon themselves to have a beloved and familiar aspect that resonates with us in the real world. This is, for example, what Shudo talks about in his blog when explaining what Pokémon are, he calls them ideal creatures for children.
