Tajiri in the manga compares Pokemon to pets, especially cats and dogs. He calls Pokemon innocent and friendly just like pets, when he envisions Pokemon battles he sees them like two dog owners allowing their dogs to fight. He also envsions Wild Pokemon, not as monster, but as being more like wild animals like lions and tigers:

The Mr. Mime side-quest, the bidoof one, the one with the wild chansey, and even the drifloon one which shows the drifloon meant no harm towards the child as you later see them together. Once people start to learn more about Pokemon their bonds grow closer.
