>>52351014Honestly, I'm inclined to split some of the areas up further so there's more encounters. Like how on Glaseado Mountain there's a river kinda running through the middle of it, and divide that Mountain up into Northwest and Southeast. Idk, maybe that makes it too easy, but I already play with the "white-out = game over" clause, so I don't really think a slightly larger pool of Pokémon to choose from really effects that.
>>52350782>giftsI count it as the area in which you receive the gift; the only exception I have is the Iron Island Lucario because you get it at the very end of the dungeon and there's no encounter available for Canalave City, so I count Riolu/Lucario as Canalave's encounter. I also always count the starter as being from the hometown, not the route where you first pick it up.
>staticsSee above.
>Catching Pokemon you don't intend on using. If it's necessary for progression, then I lift the catching restrictions. HM goons I think it's totally fine to catch something like a Bibarel if you REALLY need it to progress. I think it's dumb to say "oh, well you don't have anything that can use Strength; sorry, I guess you lose!" Just don't use it in battle and it's fine. And in FireRed/LeafGreen if you wanna catch Pokémon to get the Pokédex items, I don't really have any qualms with that if you're not planning on using them ever or just releasing them. If someone wants to get the Exp. Share to save themselves a headache, who am I to say no?
>>52341928I play with a variation of Dupes/Species clause. I like the spirit of the rule, but I dislike how you can kind of "game" the rule to guarantee encounters. I basically give myself two chances to find a new encounter on that route, and if by the third encounter I find nothing new, the third is my encounter. I supplement this with a "one type of Pokémon on the team at a time" rule, so I don't have just a team of six Gyarados.
