Bugs' biggest flaw is their HP stat. They have the lowest average HP stat of all pokemon types. Only Buzzwole has a base HP over 100. Yanmega on 86 was 2nd. Pretty dire for doubles where you need some bulk. Volcarona, Vivillon, Accelgor, and Heracross are the only others joining them with 80+ HP. They would all get some usage.
I knew I had to use a mega since they're the only bugs that reach 600BST, so I considered all of them. Mega Pinsir and Beedrill were too frail to be useful. It had to be Heracross or Scizor. I tried both, but Scizor's access to Swords Dance, priority, and excellent defensive typing proved the most useful. It was my best shot to build a team around. Plus, I managed to hatch a shiny one (pic related is me discussing which moves to keep on Scizor to my IRL m8 right after he evolved it on December 16th, 2018, since it was far too precious to trust an online m8 with).
His first partner would be one of my favourite mons, Vivillon, with a Focus Sash, Sleep Powder, Struggle Bug for a little bit of damage, and a very interesting move - Powder. Powder is a priority move that cancels an opponent's fire move and causes it to take 25% damage. Neat little gimmick when partnered with something that is only weak to fire.
In the back, I used a bulky Volcarona with roost, quiver dance, heat wave, and rage powder. This guy could also come in and take a fire move to save Scizor, boost up, blast heat waves, or when partnered with him, rage powder to give Scizor more opportunities. For the 4th teammate I never knew what to pick. I mostly went with a Buzzwole in the back with a choice scarf (Smogon said so). It seemed to make sense as something that can sweep-up and continue sweeping.
