>>34262653I don't know for sure why Sneasel's so popular, but it may be because they offer a mix of cute and cool, all in a small humanoid package that's easier for a writer to work with than a large and unwieldy Pokemon, or one with a bizarre anatomy. They're also highly intelligent and pretty good in battle, so that makes them stand out. Alternatively, writers who use Sneasel may simply do so because they like the Pokemon, and want to write about it as a result.
Whatever the reason, it sure seems like a lot of people around here, myself included, have featured Sneasel or Weavile in their writing. That makes me wonder if those two are some of the most popular species in Pokemon fanfiction in general, or if it just looks that way based on how much attention they're getting in the writethread right now. And if they aren't among the most popular, which species are? It would be interesting to see a list of Pokemon ranked by how often they show up in fanfiction, but I don't know if such a thing exists.
