Zigzagoon and Poochyena are the strongest first-route mons from a design perspective. They both capture the mundane feel of early Pokemon introducing you to the world by grounding it in reality, have a good balance designwise where they can be both a common enemy and a friend you can raise (more pronounced with Poochyena line being used by the Teams, but Mightyena itself being a loyal mon) and in Zigzagoon's case remains reliable through Pickup even long after being outclassed by later mons.
