Once you get to Kanto, go catch your new team member, slap an EXP share on it, then play the game as normal, occasionally swapping your new Pokémon in as you go to get that extra EXP in. By the time I get to Blue, my new party member is caught up, and I can finish the extra trainers and explore the rest of Kanto with my new buddy before taking on Red. It's fun. It adds some actual sense of progression to the postgame, like "wow, there's more to my adventure!", something that's missing from the newer games (well, if they had any form of postgame in the first place).
You know how I can do all this? Because I can use basic thinking skills, and I don't have the patience of a chimpanzee on crack.
I know Pokémon is braindead easy, but come on, try to use some logic for once in your life. Oh, and if you can't do that, don't blame the fucking game for your own retardation.
