My hypothesis: What if Marshadow is literally a shadow from the sea? A creature so big, its shadow can be seen from miles away deep in the sea. It could be even the size of an island. A creature so big and powerful that its able to pull the moon in order to mess marine currents or even pulling the sun for extreme heat. I was thinking about a massive whale, the kraken, a leaviathan or some sort of deep sea monster.
