Your brief description of their meeting makes me think Beatrix and Flare bonded over being young and angry. Something like... Flare being upset over something, stewing in angst, stomping around and throwing rocks at the lake to vent, smashing the film of ice that's formed over the water. Beatrix sees this, she's tentative of humans, but she picks up a rock and so too, because it's fun, and they make a shattering noise, and it's satisfying. Flare notices, and they're wary of each other, but they keep going, and it's a weird sort of bonding experience. That's what comes to mind, for me, at least.
