Then again the anime is giving attention to big goals like Ash tournament and Lillie missing father. But that doesn't seem enough for you. Sense of adventure? Pff that was discarded after XY because irl kids took this literally and got lost or worse. They changed the formula to "Stay in home, school is fun and travel ONLY if you can pay the transport ( plane, train, etc ) "
