>>32459396Funny enough there is a reason for that. The Guzmania flower belongs to the Bromiloid family. Bromiloids are known for catching water from rain and as a result, creating homes for aquatic insects.
Several other characters are named after flowers such as Plumeria and Gladion, named after the Plumeria flower and Gladiolus flower (Also known as the sword lily)
Worth noting is that all of the characters named after flowers in team skull are native Hawaiin flowers with good meanings, while the Aether Foundation's characters named after flowers have more malicious meaning. Lusamine (Jasmine) is an invasive species in Hawaii which has contributed to the destruction of native species and Faba, named after the green beans we all know and love, has a historic meaning and symbolism attached to death. Wicke, however, is exempt from this, as wicker is seen as motherly in symbolism, and confused some people who were looking into flower meanings in the character names during pre-release.
If you want to pry more, try looking into Japanese flower language, which I think is called "hankbatoba" or something like that. After all, after X and Y was released, when asked in an interview, of the heads at Gamefreak said that for gen 7 "the secret is in the flowers".
Other flower symbolism can be seen in other 3ds Pokemon games. If you doubt me, look up what the flowers you stand in when you fight in victory road mean in Japanese flower symbolism.
