To be honest I don´t get why GameFreak/TPC keeps creating more and more Pokemon. Most of the new Pokemon are ugly, boring or just forgettable. To keep creating so many Pokemon each generation after the first one was a mistake with really big consequences: low quality.
On the other hand, I am really happy how Cross-Generational Evolutions, Mega Evolutions, Regional Forms, Gigantamax and even most of the special Z-moves are exclusive to Kantomons, and I think that was the correct way to keep expanding the games.
Am I the biggest fan of Pikachu and Charizard? Not at all, but still I think they are pretty iconic Pokemon and I’m really happy that they keep appearing as the identity and legacy of this saga.
Luckily GameFreak and TPC are aware of it, so Kantomons remain pretty relevant in general, for example:
> Galar’s most shilled character’s aces (Lapras, Machamp, Gengar, Galarian Slowbro*, Charizard)
> Alolan Pokerides (Lapras, Tauros, Charizard, Machamp)
> Ash team in the Coronation Series (Pikachu, Gengar, Dragonite, Sirfetch*).
> Constant remakes, relaunches and merchandise
Unovamons were a flawed experiment of regional forms and I think its upcoming remake could be the opportunity they need to fix this problem with a biblical Great Flood:
> redesign most of the unovamons so they can be proper regional forms. Not all obviously, for example Sawk and Throh should just fall into oblivion.
> a pruning, a proper dexcut that limits the maximum of each generation to 50 new Pokemon. Nobody will even notice most of the losses.
