>>44854701There is frankly not a single person in the English dub nowadays that can show even a hint of actual emotion due to almost no effort being put into the vocal direction ("kids are dumb so we can do whatever we want" mentality), and most voice actors are miscast for the roles they were given. They have played a major role in the Pokemon English dub's decline into obscurity, as well as Gopal & Goldfarb's excessive removal of the Japanese OST. While 4Kids removed music too, at least they never replaced as much of it as TPCi has from the XY Series onward to now, and it was with stuff that was at least decent enough to not obscure the Japanese soundtrack in their own right. On the other hand, TPCi just uses elevator music and ripoff Batman themes by Ed Goldfarb.
Add this to the censorship being absolutely back to the 90s dub standards in the Sun & Moon + Journeys dub Series (pic related), piss poor opening themes, and also the script rewrites still being a thing = not redeemable.
It really shouldn't have been that hard for the Pokemon Company International (multi-billion dollar franchise) to churn out a remotely competent dub, seeing as they've had the rights to it for more than a decade, yet the dub is worse in 2020 than it was when it first debuted in 1998. We gave 4Kids a lot of shit (justifiably with their dumb censorship practices in those days), but goddamn, at least they did a better job with Pokemon than TPCi is now.
