>>55770566The only 3 starters worth using for a new player seem to be the Paldean ones for that exact reason, and even then you really just want Skeledirge because it has the most useful immunity and Torch Song to snowball. From what I've seen, the game loves to start throwing Pokémon with SE coverage at you as much as it can and I feel like Quaqua is a sitting duck (literally and figuratively) because it takes a while to build momentum esp when opponents can just pop a berry and match your speed all over again. I haven't tried the cat, but I'm sure it does okay until you run into something you can't touch because it's another mon that needs its Hidden Ability/TMs/Egg Moves to get really good or even touch shit like Rayquaza. As for the starters from every other generation prior to Gen 9, the only other one you'd want to use is probably Charizard Y for Drought. IIRC, every other starter just can't keep up because it needs a lot of customizing to be good as naturally they're all fairly average -- even favorites like Blaziken, Swampert, and Empoleon. And then you also have shit like having to wait till you hopefully end up in the specific scenario to Mega/Max/Get the Hisuian Form. Or the stupid fact that the Gen 2 starters don't even start with a STAB move or learn one until a couple level ups!
