The idea that you can walk up to a little Bounsweet, watch it hop towards you curiously and then stop and dance, only for a Tsareena to notice you and, being the alpha of the pack, charge straight for you to defend them is FUCKING FANTASTIC and sells these Pokemon as living creatures far better than a Pokedex entry can. There's lots of small interaction details based on placement and specific species (like how most early evo mons don't initiate battle, but Tyrogue and Machop do because they want to train).
I think SS has problems, but no other game in the series even remotely stands up to it in how well it sells the feeling of being in wildlife with Pokemon surrounding you.
