Sorry your headcanon doesn't apply to the series or to my interpretation of the series.
Enjoy getting mad at knowing you're wrong in the future.
And if the creator's words on how he created pokémon specifically to cater to young children can't allow you to make an educated guess at why the rest of the series was created the exact way it has been created, curated and developed from the to the modern day, you should go play something more simple like noughts and crosses.

Ash is Red. Red wasn't even called Red until Gen 2, his name was originally "Satoshi", just like Ash. Same deal with Gary/Shigeru and Blue. Satoshi Tajiri even refers them as being the same in an old interview

They're the same damn character, Satoshi Tajiri himself referred to both of them as "Satoshi" (and Blue/Gary both as Shigeru, before Gen 2 renamed the game versions Red and Blue)

Ash is just a much a counterpart to Red as Gary is to Blue, the creator himself considers them the same character

Tajiri has also talked about the anime before, and he basically views it and the games as being interchangeable and doesn't distinguish between Red/Ash, they're both "Satoshi" (his self-insert) to him
