Holy shit, Dawn is just starting but she's already smarter than everyone in Hoenn. Her mini-arc in the last two episodes was also a delight to see unfold, ending with her mother telling her to rely more on herself. That's something May had pretty well under wraps by this point, but it's a point of growth for Dawn, which is neat.
With as many times as May won by knockout in her Contests, it's nice to see a slight shift of focus towards the Contest-specific aspects of battling. I'd be interested to see more of a guy like Nando who does both and can probably pivot between them. I think we can all agree though, that Ash's success with Aipom is because Ash learned everything he knew from May. What a good influence she was on Ash and his mongrel fucking Aipom.
