There was no real “coming of age” moment for him. It just means he could have become the champion decades ago, and nothing would have changed. It feels incredibly arbitrary that they decided to end the series now if they never had a big reveal planned. All they really did was leave the door wide open to bring him back for future movies or in case the Riko anime flops somehow.
