First, Surge may or not may be from Unova, since Unova is not pokemon America, but pokemon New York area, while America stands for the United States (Which Unova is a state from, just like Orre and Alola) that can have the same name in the pokemon world like Kanto does.
Second, Pokemon is trying to retcon all or most Earth references (pic related). Guyana may be next.
