yajima has done nothing but create problems for the anime and hurt it. despite what copers say xy and z have been the lowest points for the anime of all time it's a mess the series has robot characters is poorly written and BAD all around from the outside you can see what he was trying to do but he failed at it. if you don't believe be look at the movies they have been the worst they've ever been

im answering this assuming you have not watched the series in a long time. pokemon is massive there is no reason for it to end its popularity in Japan although it does have its ups and downs as all shows do(xyz had recorded lows for viewership). I don't know anything about the directors saying that but at the same time it was "allegedly" supposed to end after DP. the BW reboot was a mistake for the series JN as of now has acknowledged much of ashes past (there are some retcons and things have been ignored) he won the alola league and is champion there in JN he is competing in the PWC(pokemon world championship) and if he gets to the finals with face leon the current world champion. it has been stated by ash that being champion is just a "step" to becoming a pokemon master which is his true goal that being said as far as I'm aware there is no official definition of what a pokemon master is except that it is to be "up to viewer interpretation" as stated by the company.
there is just no reason to end pokemon its popular it promotes toys and games and makes money for the company its very popular is japan. as for ash although there is some speculation if he will continue to be the MC of the series there is nothing official saying he's leaving he's iconic and Pikachu is the mascot and to a lesser extent team rocket (mainly Meowth) is important to be able to translate from pokemon to the viewer
in summary pokemon is a massive brand it makes money from there target audience(japan and children)
