>Making it Fighting/Water would just make it worse. It would help it stand out a bit more from the slew of Fighting types other than just being "that one that has Octolock". Plus it'd get 3 new resistances to common attacking types in exchange for 2 more weaknesses. STAB Dive would've been great for prolonging a battle to accumulate more Octolock drops and hitting back much harder. This wouldn't suddenly make it good enough to use in comp, but would be a lot more fun to use.
>There's gonna be 3 Fighting/Water types in Sword and Shield once the DLC comes out. That's too many.Nobody complained about having Quagsire, Whiscash, and Gastrodon all in the same regional dex. Three of this dual-type wouldn't have been a bother either, especially considering Keldeo is a Mythical and Urshifu might be some special case where one might not want to use either of those. It's better than 10 mono-Fighting types.
>There are too many Water types so another one would just add to that problem.I honestly can't argue this one too much. All I can say about this is that the total amount of Water Pokemon doesn't really affect moment-to-moment gameplay since you're only concerning yourself with the existence of a few of them at a time. You could say this about mono-Fighting too but this handful doesn't have the benefit of being so varied in role- most of them are straightforward physical attackers.
>Who cares about type diversity?Honestly it doesn't matter, but it's neat to think about sensible retypings. Normally I wouldn't care either because we just have to deal with what we're given, but 10 fully evolved Pokemon of the same type in a single dex just seems a bit excessive. Anything to lessen that would have been nice, and Fighting/Water Grapploct could have been a fun and sensible choice regardless of diversity.
tl;dr: Grapploct is cool and a thematic Fighting/Water typing would have made it much more fun to see and use.
