I'm guessing the episode right before the Burgh Gym battle is when the cancelled Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma special was meant to happen. The battle itself was fine, though it's a bit disheartening to hear Iris and Cilan both openly acknowledge the fact that Ash makes stupid decisions now and just kind of wave it off as "Ash sure has a spicy flavor." I do appreciate that the anime gave Burgh a nice introduction and some background to establish him before the battle happened. That's generally the one thing people unanimously praise about the BW games; they make the Gym Leaders feel like people in the world.
