>>43700060I agree with every one of your points. It bugs the shit out of me that they would rather just re-type old Pokémon rather than come up with a new design. Is there really any reason why we needed two regional forms of Meowth? I feel like Perrserker and G-Meowth could have easily been new Pokemon, especially because they now have taken the mantle of being the Viking or dwarf Pokémon away from something else. G-Rapidash also quashed any chances of a fresh and new unicorn line for a while. It also makes it less likely they will use older, neglected designs in future titles. When was the last time we had Glameow in a regional dex? I believe the regional forms draw attention away from building a more robust experience. An English region that doesn't have the Lilipup or Snubbul lines, the Litleo line, or Druddigon just seems so wrong. Maybe instead of reinventing Darmanitan to be yet another Ice type regional form that outclasses the original, they could have taken the time to really think about what Pokemon should be available in a UK region? And while I think regional evolutions are super cool, it seems like they don't always follow the design logic of the original line. Obstagoon sticks out like an absolute sore thumb and so do a few others. And for that matter, why are so many interesting type combinations locked behind regional forms? You are telling me that they could not think of a Poison/Fairy type that wasn't a retyped Weezing? Or another Fire/Ghost line or a unique Normal/Dark? And it is likely we'll get Poison/Psychic tied to G-Slowbro instead of something new. But then we also get crap like pure Ghost Corsola when it was a good candidate for Ghost/Rock.
tl;dr Basically, game freak is doing this for marketing and does not think about any of the actual implications for how it makes them look as game developers. it stifles their creativity and the true potential of these games because they're completely abusing it rather than using it in small doses
