>>35295227I played two campaigns with PTU that both died out rather quickly. Neither of my characters were really original, I had one not!Yellow from Pokéspe and one not!Zinnia whom I tried to make less horrible than the canon character. I had fun with them both, and really enjoyed the crunch of the system. It seems like most other systems try to stay rules-lite, and that's never appealed to me as much.
Apparently the devs for PTU scrapped their plans for the game and are now making a new system called "Pokémon Journeys" which abandons the heavy crunch for the exact kind of rules-lite shit I preferred PTU for not being. It's a real shame.
>>35295252Pretty much, but how much of it is collaborative storytelling and how much is simulationist gameplay depends on the focus of the system. PTU tries to simulate the mechanics of the Pokémon games and convert them to a tabletop system, while something like Pokérole puts the narrative above all else and uses its rules just for conflict-resolution. You need to look around and try different systems to find one that has the right mix of the two for you and your group.
