The issue with diagnoses like that is that it can take multiple tries - I basically had a team confirm I was literally retarded, and it was obvious I was fucking autistic.
Dunno how much advice it's worth, but I generally only bring up autism if it's A) relevant to what's going on (disability disclosures) or if I run into someone dealing with it (usually parents with low-functioning kids). You'll get a lot of 'oh I didn't know you were autistic!' - people are generally good to me, and some days, it's really obvious I'm a sperg.
