>>53253339What's the problem with being a dubfag? The entire English Pokemon community is dubfags. There are no people who watch Pokemon who are like UNIRONIC super fans of the Japanese version first and foremost.
The 4kids nostalgia is what unites the community, it's one of the lillars of the Pokemon franchise, in English at least.
Pokemon just isn't THAT kind of show where you miss out on some amazing experience if you don't watch it in Japanese. Ash? He's more intersting in English. I wouldn't say by much but Veronica Taylor's Ash is just kinda more relatable overall, Rika Matsumoto's Ash comes off as a bit too unironically self-centered. Brock? In Japanese he's just kinda forgettable overall compared to Eric Stuart's version. Misty? She's equally good in both versions, Serena is good in both versions too. Haven Paschall did Serena as good as Mayuki Makiguchi did, there was legit effort there.
TeamRocket is kinda annoying in both dubs but in English they're funnier. In Japanese, they're not really funny at all, at least for me.
Actual Emglish speaking anime fans move on to more serious animes where the dub difference does matter, like Bleach or Detective Conan, in those ones, the Japanese dubs are way more impactful, not gonna argue.
Pokemon is a kids show, even in Japan. You don't watch it for the "otaku appeal", first and foremost it's a childhood fantasy and comfy relaxation. You don't to be an OTAKU to enjoy Pokemon, in fact actual otakus would rather watch stuff like Madoka, Fate or idk, SAO I guess but not Pokemon.
The audience for the JP dub does not overlap with the English Pokemon community, or should I say, communities (serebii, fanficiton net, deviant art, wattpad, ao3, bulbagarden, etc).
The English Pokemon fandom is it's own self sustaining entity and the English dub "canon legacy" works as the source material for these people just fine.
