If you were talking about Gen 3, then maybe. Gen 2 sprites were good. Gen 4 were alright and Gen 5 were amazing. Gen 1 (G/R) sprites did their own thing, which makes them pretty fucking based.
Gen 5 introduced sleeping being displayed on the sprites. Idle animations for every single pokemon in a generation that saw the largest number of new pokemon.
Say what you will, but I like it.

Black/White’s sprites were fine.
Why is this still a topic of contention?
Black/White’s sprites have more frames of animation than this. In a game with front/back sprites needing animation. You’re not going to get Irem/Nazca/SNK sprites from Gamefreak.
What we got was still better than 3D models (or at least the ones that were eventually given to us).

Heatmor is a very wierd case for me because I like its 3d model a lot more than its sprite, but the 3d model took away its whole fire-tongue gimmick. I'm really mixed about that
