I am currently replaying hgss, and I believe they are fine games overall and I don't care about the lackluster story or the pokemon distribution oversaturated with kantomons hell, even the slow game speed is overdone as long as you disable combat animations. the only thing that bothers me is how it feels like every fucking trainer has one or sometimes even multiple mons who carry disruption moves like thunder wave/stun spore/hypnosis/sand attack/confuse ray/supersonic. it makes so many random trainer battles so fucking boring and unfun to get through when you need to stare at your mon sleeping or punching itself in the face because of confusion for multiple turns in a row. I don't recall this being nearly as much of an issue in other mainline games, is it recency bias? or is it just hgss?
holy shit I was battling ariana in mahogany while writing this post and it's a double battle with a drowzee spamming disable, an arbok spamming glare, then a grimer spamming mud slap. fuck this this
