>>51744026>>51743759Yelling out commands is classic anime rule of cool, like dudes swordfighting yelling something like "DRAGON SLASH" in between swinging at each other or some shit.
That said, Pokemon are not boxers, they need more than just a little input from coach on the sidelines. They're wild animals at heart—if you leave a Tyranittar on the field 9 times out of 10 it's going to do whatever it's instincts tell it to, which is lounge and bite shit, even if that's not the ideal play.
It's not the Pokemon's job to understand metagame and strategy, even if elite fighters pick up on it through experience. It's the trainer's job to be on top of the battle, and to think on their feet to make the best play at the best time.
But battles are fucking fast. Especially so at the higher levels. Commands are a necessity, but they would probably get shortened or turned into signals. Hell, maybe a trainer carries around a whistle and each sound means a different command. Or they yell 'Blue' to tell their Squirtle to use Ice Beam. Announcing plainly what you're about to do sends a warning to the enemy, and that's retarded.
