The designers in charge of the biggest franchise are paid to produce irremediable garbage like this. Meanwhile you can find a ton of cool fakemon designed for free

1) The artstyle and proportions were way better
2) Back then pokemon was in its beginnings. We're supposed to progress, but in each gen (im,o the decline started in gen 4 and) the designs have got worse and worse to the point that most of the current dex is disgustingly ugly
