Ask yourself this, imagine that each season of the anime is the same only that instead of using the name of Ash it is that of another protagonist, do I really change something? It's not about X character would have done this or that, literally without any real change. Using a different character should be the correct answer, but only if this is to be done correctly, giving it a personality of its own, a background, goals, dreams, an evolution during its arc, and a conclusion. But what is the use of having a new character, if it is only going to be a copy of Ash?
