I can appreciate wanting to start a new region with a brand new dex, but the dex variety early game is poor and the good mons evolve too late postgame. I can appreciate the heavier focus on the story, but the shoehorned chosen one plot and forcing you to catch the legendary for the first time are fundamentally bad story decisions that go against Tajiri's original concept for the series, in that everyone can be a trainer, and everyone can be great in spite of humble beginnings, and that Pokémon are to be discovered as a resulg of exploration and curiosity, not given to you. The game also starts the bad trends of Mario stage regions, cycling between an urban city, desert, forest all next to each other without cohesive region design. The game is also much easier with infinite TMs and lucky eggs being available early. Infinite TMs are good QoL but they break in-game, so I much prefer the TR/TM methods of modern gens. I can appreciate all the ideas and passion poured into this game but on a lot of it they missed the mark.
