They just have to stay only half faithful towards the games premise, take their time and are an more positively experience in general. Even Chronicles was in total better than the mid-moments in JN, because they took advantage of all the other characters but Ash to make up a worldbuilding.
Ash could be a fucking Rival or Goalpost for someone else and People would still dig the new character because they get through the pinned.
