Ash HAS to have a baseball cap, and he HAS to wear a vest or jacket. Ash HAS to have a green backpack just because it's always been green and he HAS to have fingerless gloves with at least a little green in them.
You can see in DP that they gave him mostly FRLG Red looks to his jacket, only keeping Lucas' vest. And making the vest black instead of blue was fairly radical.
