>>55825384>how is smogon-style going to play into itThat's something both he and I are discovering along the way. I've been watching mostly OU bracket battles on youtube to learn how the smogon do, and so far there's enough for him to become a trailblazer with. If/when he gets over the lack of a smogon ruleset, that is. That's one thing most smogon players who despise the AG format don't quite realize, there are no rules enforcing an artificial meta in the real pokeworld.
>Especially since the switch/phase moves or lack there of neuters' a lot of that as switching is a massive part of the gameSwitching will still be possible, so long as his hand eye coordination are up to task. He just can't rely on automatic recalls.
Phasing however, I'm still torn on, and maybe some input would help. Should there be a rule in league battles that pokemon must be switched out if they're knocked across the arena via a phasing move? It feels a bit contrived, but at the same time I can imagine this becoming a genuine rule. It would simulate a trainer needing to rely on another pokemon in the moment, which is the purpose phasing moves would serve in a 'real' battle, so I can see such a rule worming its way into the early era of league battles and remaining for hundreds of years simply because nobody bothered appealing it.
If anyone knows any smogon youtube channels that you think might be insightful, let me know. So far I've just been hopping between random videos so far, searching for keywords that are immediately relevant to the SmOC. Obviously he's not going to be getting or fighting a gholdengo, zamezanta, landorus or ogrepon anytime soon, so a lot of the meta guide videos I've found have been useless to me.
