>>53671045There is a recent sub of Indigo League and the Orange Islands that's complete, and allegedly that subber is working their way through Johto right now. The sub group that did the latter half of DP, and then did BW and XY, started up because 4Kids left and they felt the comedic appeal of the English dub was lost for those who grew up with it. But because that group was notoriously slow in their releases, they never had the time to go back and do the first half of DP because they wanted to capitalize on doing BW as it was airing, although they did go back and do the first 5 of DP (before retracting them as being subpar quality) and I think did the first episode and then the last handful of AG because they wanted to. That group died 40 or so episodes into SM and the current group that did Journeys and now PM2023 finished SM, going back and resubbing the first 40 so they matched. That's the current state of subbed Pokémon. Now that the ashime is over, I wouldn't be surprised if people take the opportunity to close the gap so everything is subbed. Whether subanon is the guy to do it for DP, who knows? A lot of people have attempted to sub Pokémon and quit because it was too boring and time-consuming.
And yeah, I believe the insider. It reminds me of when 4Kids tried to release the uncut Japanese episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh and proceeded to get sued by TV Tokyo. They're 100% aware that an official subbed release of Pokémon seasons would sell incredibly well physically, even in a streaming age, but they just won't do it. Hell, Japan canceled official retail DVD releases in Johto and never attempted it again, so maybe they're still bitter 20 years later that the English 4Kids dub was more profitable than their Japanese original on physical media?
