Ruby and Sapphire didn't catch my interest as much as Gen 2. I skipped out on Emerald. I held off on playing ORAS due to loss of interest, but finally played it shortly before the 3DS online shutdown.
The side material which were used to flesh out the characters back then, there really wasn't much for him. Only 1 "filler" episode in the AG anime, PokeSpe wasn't published in North America at the time, and while I did watch the Mega Evolution Specials when they aired, he didn't catch my interest in those.
