>>51116312The number one reason I do not watch the dub is the replacement music. I cannot believe they are still doing this in 2022. Even 4kids, when they began using replacement music during its later seasons, still kept some of the original music (battle themes, also an instrumental of advance adventure). Of course the ideal would be keeping all of the original background audio intact, as the original dub seasons did. People don't realize how important that soundtrack was to the anime's success. Imagine bye bye butterfree without

The secondary reason I do not watch the dub is the current VA's performances. The episode scripts are passable, but the actors' performances leave a lot to be desired. Everyone speaks unnaturally and also in a way that's a little grating. It's similar to some of the performances in the very first 4kids episodes, but 4kids very quickly improved. Meanwhile the TPCi dub isn't much better than when it started out, and it's been dubbing Pokemon far far longer than 4kids ever did. And the 4kids dub of Pokemon was never outright bad, when it was bad it was generally because the original episode they were dubbing was bad. It's not 4kids' fault they had to dub 150 episodes of Johto where nothing happens, that's just what the show was then. They did everything that they could with those scripts to make those boring episodes entertaining, and the VAs did a great job. I don't blame the current VAs, because this is the kind of thing that falls back on the person directing them. 4kids VAs did great jobs in Pokemon but then could do an awful job in Sonic X or One Piece, which makes it seem like the director's fault.
