>>50041156You are either lying or did not play Pokémon GBA/DS games as a child.
Mashing the A-Button "mindlessly" in Pokémon will get your party wiped, no matter how far back in its history you go. The battles may not be very complex or mentally trying, but they’re not mindless. You must still think. You must still make plans to adapt to different situations, however simplistic to implement those plans may be.
And that’s just for boss battles.
Older Pokémon games had random overworld battles every now and then that were bound to throw the player for a loop, because of where the NPC trainer was situated. Pokémon’s approach to difficulty is not much different than human wave tactics, whereby the game throws as many opponents as you as it can without ruining the flow of your perceived adventure, witling down your resources to make the next enemy more threatening.
In the case of RSE there are long transitions between healing spots, making the journey that much more arduous. There are also trainers that pop out of the dirt to surprise you. All of this is bound to place stress on the child playing the game, who is likely eagerly waiting to get to the next area and doesn’t want to be forced back to the last level. Note the usage of the word child.
XY is different from other Pokemon games because it takes no measures to update Pokemon’s classic tricks for returning players. If you played Pokemon before, then you know about resource management, you know how to grind, you know about X-Items, you know Buffs and Debuffs aren’t useless, you’re not in much of a hurry to advance the campaign because you know what’s going to happen, so grinding becomes less of a chore, and you probably have no qualms going back to the Center halfway through a route to avoid getting wiped. XY practically throws resources at you, so you’re never in much danger outside of Gym Battles. But by the time you get Mega Evolution, even these should be a non-issue. It's practically impossible to lose.
