Written in a sibling manner, and lacks the general adventure for the sake of adventure type of personality, Misty and May are decent, but Dawn is the only one whose relationship with Ash I would describe as good, and Serena is just bad. And this just speaks volumes to how poor the general quality of the ashnimes writing is, that when you look into the only part of the ashnime with decent to good writing, the early movies, the one romantic relationship from those movies blows all but one of them completely out of the water, with 1/100th of the screentime. The only thing that doesnt happent is Ash and Latias bickering/disagreeing about something, which is fine due to the lack of screentime, and the writers refraining from using the “third act breakup”, as the third act conflict starter, so there was simply no time for that, which in this case can be excused considering how well executed the rest of their relationship is, as opposed to Ash and Serena which had nothing to show for this apart from one scene in 140 episodes, whose conflict is ultimately meaningless and doesnt advance their relationship at all.
