It never quite scratches the itch, though, the references only serve to make me want it more. A China region could be so good, especially if they went hard on the fantasy elements.
I've lost count how many times I've pictured how the Li River and Karst Mountains could look in a Pokémon game. There could be multi coloured petals in the water, Magikarp swimming upstream, lots of bug and bird Pokémon flying around. Then you've got the huge temples and palaces, imagine victory road that winds up a sacred mountain and the league is like Fanjing Shan, just a big, gorgeous structure atop a mountain surrounded by mist. Honestly, I could gush over the natural and man-made beauty of China forever and a day, let alone how fucking perfect all of this shit would be for a Pokémon game due to the cherry picking nature of any region's locales.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Pooh Bear shill, in fact, due to my job, I can't ever go there. The shithead bugman government would abduct me thinking I know shit I don't and fucking murder me for it. Those dirty pricks didn't deserve to inherit such a culturally and geographically rich country, they destroy it more and more every day.
