He put emphasis on making everything more "dramatic" by making Trainers calling moves and Pokemon charging/prepping moves too overboard, in place of actual moves animation and the battle choreography itself. As the result, the battle is so "soulless" and weak when compared to battles before, even Ash vs TR in first 5 episodes of OS where they set the standard.
It only exhudes "whoa so dramatic" effect rather than natural tense created by regular flow of the battle. This also what makes Ash vs Sawyer and Ash vs Alain the worst 6v6 in the anime
