I thought it was a super recent deal until I saw someone with a full shelf of these Chinese things, like over a hundred 1/20 scale Kanto Pokémon, Reds, Ashes, Gym Leaders, etc., and most of them didn't actually look awful as you'd expect Chinese knock-offs to look. Some could actually convince you they were legit products from Bandai or Megahouse. Apparently this stuff has been going on for a few years now and I was completely unaware until last month when someone posted a figure set of the Amour kissu scene as a 1/20 here, and now a month later there's the crossdressing Ash-Serena as a 1/8, as part of a line with Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and regular Serena. I wonder how this came about? Did those old bootleggers who got by ripping people off on ebay by selling bootleg Megahouse G.E.M. figures for $20 decide to just make original stuff for full price, go semi-legit, and find success? Did they realize there was a whole world of wish-fulfillment figure sets that the official companies were never going to touch, and so they decided to fill that market? I gotta say, probably one of the smarter things Chang ever did.
